Hearty congratulations to Alejandrina Guzman who has become the first Latina disabled student president at University of Texas-Austin. Guzman and her running mate Micky Wolf captured 54% of the student vote, winning by an almost 800-vote margin. The six-point election platform that Guzman and Wolf ran on included improving accessibility for disabled students, addressing sexual assault, and affordability of college. Fourth-year government and Mexican-American studies major Alejandrina Guzman made University of Texas history Thursday when she was elected to be the Austin campus’ first Latina and physically disabled student body president.
A campus-wide run-off election concluded with Guzman and running mate Micky Wolf capturing 54 percent of the vote and winning the election by an almost 800-vote margin Thursday evening.
