The Legendary Leozinho Is Coming to the Low Country!

Right on the heels of my time with Lister out in San Diego last week, I have another grappling treat looming on the horizon here in the low country--namely, the legendary Leo Vieira is doing a seminar at a recently opened Checkmat gym in Mt. Pleasant.  Not only is Vieira a multiple time world and ADCC champion and the founder of the Checkmat team (see here and here), but he is also one of the pioneers of the open guard that has become the norm in modern jiu jitsu.

Needless to say, I am excited to attend his seminars.  More exciting still, it is only $75 for both days (which will include a gi and a no gi class).  However, he'll be here next weekend, so if you're interested in attending, you should reserve your place soon with the folks at Checkmat Charleston.  Here is their announcement about the seminar along with their salient contact information:

Don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of the best BJJ competitors in the world. May 3rd & 4th, 2014. 1135 Bowman Road in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Contact Bill Dillard to reserve your spot. 530-957-0483. William.dillard2 [at]

Not that you should need any extra incentive, but here is a great post that was put together by the wizards at The Jiu Jitsu Laboratory about Vieira's ground-breaking grappling career. Hopefully, it will inspire folks to come to the seminar.  For my friends who live in the general area (GA, SC, NC), let me know if you want to make a trip to town for the seminar and you need a place to stay.  I have limited space at my house for those who are interested!
